The Daily Record reports that Rangers academy coach Peter Lovenkrands is a ‘serious contender’ for the vacant St Johnstone manager’s role following the departure of Tommy Wright.
Wright had been in charge of the Perth side since 2013 but left over the weekend citing the need for a rest [BBC Scotland].

A number of potential replacements, including former boss Steve Lomas, were quickly identified, but now Lovenkrands’ name has entered the fray.
The 40-year-old has cult hero status at Ibrox after helping to secure six major trophies during his time as a Rangers player between 2000 and 2006.
He finished his playing career in England but returned to take up a coaching role with the Gers in May 2017. He’s currently in charge of the Colts and Development teams at the club alongside Graeme Murty.
Lovenkrands’ brother, Tommy, spent three years at St Johnstone as a player from 2000 to 2003.

Verdict
This isn’t the first time Lovenkrands has been linked to a managerial vacancy.
Back in February 2019 he was reportedly in the running to take over at FC Nordsjaelland in his native Denmark [Scottish Sun] and then in December of last year he was described as a candidate to replace Steve Clarke at Kilmarnock [Daily Record].
It’s not every day there’s a vacancy at a top-flight club and the job may interest the Dane.
Wright’s are big boots to fill, though, and Lovenkrands will have to weigh up whether or not he’s ready to become a no.1 after just a few seasons with the Gers academy, before putting his hat in the ring.
