Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, specifically addressed the situation of club captain, Steven Davis, for the first time, this afternoon.
Amid reports of a return to Rangers being agreed in principle, Hasenhuttl suggested that Southampton are on board with the move.

“The fact is that he has a half year contract here until the summer, so what we want to do is give him the chance to make the next step. If it is a possibility we will help him do so”, he explained to the media.
“He has done a lot for this club, so hopefully we can find a win-win situation for both sides”, the former RB Leipzig boss added.
Clearly, there is no animosity between Hasenhuttl and Davis.
That is, despite the Northern Irishman not appearing for the Saints since the Austrian’s arrival.

It seems to be more a matter of practicality. The manager went on to state that he simply has too many players in his current squad and that some don’t fit his mould.
He wants pace and strong running throughout the team. 34-year-old Davis may not offer him that, but he would bring a lot to Rangers.

Given that his current boss has spoken so candidly about the transfer, this one looks a matter of time.
Time for the Gers to get this proven international performer, over the line.
