Rangers need matchwinners to step up between now and the end of the season and Philippe Clement knows that he has a couple in his ranks that he can turn to.

Against Celtic at Ibrox, the forward line in the first half were firing blanks until the Gers boss made the changes that everyone had been crying out for.

Technically, the title is still in Rangers hands and Philippe Clement will be hoping that one of his star men in particular can maintain his current rate of return.

Rangers need matchwinner Rabbi Matondo to stay fit

Abdallah Sima chipped in with his 16th of the season to mark his return to goalscoring ways and Cyriel Dessers was unlucky not to add to his 17.

But…

It is Rabbi Matondo who is the one causing opposition teams problems on a regular basis.

The Wales international is now averaging a goal contribution of one every 69 minutes this season.

If only we could keep him fit.

Before Michael Beale got sacked, it was £2m signing Matondo who looked like the one bright spark but the previous Gers boss was reluctant to start him and change his formation to include the winger.

Then, a long term injury saw him miss several months and the season just hasn’t got going for him.

For perspective, the 23-year old has managed just 553 minutes of league football this campaign, around nine games in total for his 17 appearances.

With five goals and three assists, Matondo has been a threat on a consistent basis.

The one thing missing from Matondo’s game

He has shown that he has the ability to his double figures for goals and assists but he has to stay fit and out of the treatment room.

Two weeks in a row he has score goals that could be crucial come the end of the season.

He might not be able to repeat that sort of goal on a regular basis, but he is creating space for teammates and causing panic.

Mentality and intent will be massive for Rangers in the run-in, Matondo is refusing to go away and seems driven to prove that he can be a real asset going forwards.

Another few goals like his screamer on Sunday wouldn’t go a miss.
