There was plenty of drama as Rangers ended up on the losing side after a Premier Sports Cup final penalty shootout.

Celtic prevailed on spot kicks after an end-to-end encounter which saw the sides share six goals across 90 minutes and then still fail to be separated after 120.

There have been plenty of talking points since with the feeling that Rangers should have had a penalty after VAR failed to pick up on a foul on Vaclav Cerny being inside the box.

Gers boss Clement insisted that one was a ‘weird’ call and demanded journalists conduct an investigation into it.

While Rangers fans have also now spotted what a Celtic man did during the shootout and are questioning why nothing was done about it.

Rangers players should have ‘went berserk’

It was the penalty denial on Cerny that BBC Sportscene’s pundits put a big focus on.

Former referee Bobby Madden had insisted it was “100 per cent” a penalty and Neil McCann agrees.

But the former Ibrox winger couldn’t believe the players didn’t make more of a deal of it and try to exert a bit of pressure onto the officials.

He said: “Totally agree. We said it at the time, if you are on the line you are inside the box.

“Watch Cerny’s foot – Scales has taken a horrible touch and look at the jersey pull.

“Cerny’s right foot is on the line. He [Scales] absolutely panics.

“The foot is on the line and he is tugging him down – that is what brings him down. His foot is on the line and he is in the box and therefore it should be a penalty.

“I’m amazed that the Rangers players are not going berserk there and putting pressure on VAR to take a look at that.

“Maybe they have and they have just said to John Beaton there is ‘nothing to see here’ – there is plenty to see here.”

Scott Allan added: “It’s a huge talking point and for me it’s a penalty.

“We have touched on the foot on the line and the pull. For me the big thing is, if I was a player on the side there – it’s the reaction of the Rangers players.

“They didn’t really put any pressure on the referee to look at it.

“Cerny himself wasn’t making much noise about it but for me it’s a stick-on penalty.”

What Clement said about Rangers penalty claim

”This was a really cruel one I think,” said Clement. “I think my team deserved more today.

”Creating more chances than the opponent, coming back in a good way and then losing with penalties in the end.

“But also I don’t know if you saw the images back but my phone is overloaded with the penalty situation with Cerny.

”So I get hundreds of messages now about that. That’s also a really decisive moment in the game.

“Yes of course he cannot see that that moment but he didn’t get the communication from the VAR to come to watch the screen.

”What’s for me is a really weird situation, that at least there’s no look about that kind of situation in this kind of game.

”About the situation that the referee can make a decision.”

Demanding answers about VAR, he went on: “I know all of you like to dig in deep into things. So maybe it’s also a very important moment to dig into that.

”About why there’s no communication in that moment, about a big decision like that.

”Because it’s clear for everybody it’s a game decisive decision.

“I hope that you guys really dig into things, I hope.”
