Hibs have been warned over the future conduct of their guests on HibsTV as the SFA concludes their investigation into comments made during a match with Rangers.
Celebrity Hibs fans and author Irvine Welsh was resoundingly criticised by Gers fans for dehumanising comments levelled at striker Alfredo Morelos.
Welsh also used rhyming slang for a derogatory and known sectarian term aimed at Rangers supporters and the Protestant/Unionist community.
The outspoken author is known to have a particular issue with Rangers and this only fanned the fire in the fall-out of the comments.
They concerned an incident between Morelos and Hibs defender Ryan Porteous during Rangers’ 1-0 win at Easter Road back in January.
Morelos was alleged to have stamped on Porteous – an incident the referee missed and for which he was witch-hunted for to the point of a ban in the aftermath of the game – before going on to score the eventual winner.
At half-time Welsh said the following:
“Morelos should have been off. That was outrageous.
“It was terrible sort of stamping there by the sticky bun.
“He should have been shown the red for that, no question about that at all, had it been Porteous he would have been off.”
“Morelos kind of should basically be macheted into small pieces and sent in various packets to different corners of the globe for a challenge like that.
“And kind of consumed by seagulls.”
According to STV, Hibs have been warned about future conduct regarding the incident but the club will face no action regarding the comments.
Rangers fans resoundingly criticised the distasteful comments of the author at the time and criticised the suggestion that they were made innocently.
