Rangers legend Ally McCoist revealed that a scout from Premier League side Southampton was in attendance as the Ibrox side trounced Hamilton 8-0.

The legendary Govan goalscorer was speaking on talkSPORT and revealed that he was actually at Ibrox for the match when he spoke to the Premier League talent-spotter.

McCoist was speaking about the scout’s comments on life at Southampton, which the scout apparently claimed was “a great place to be” right now.

“I was at the Rangers game yesterday and I was actually chatting to a lad behind me who was one of Southampton’s scouts,” said McCoist [via Daily Record].

“As you would expect, he was singing the praises of the manager like no idea.

“”And it was along the lines of all the players love their football and love the training and it’s a great place to be.

“When you think where they were just over a year ago when they lost to Leicester City, what a transformation.”

With a host of first-team stars on fine form at the club this season, Rangers fans will be intrigued as to why the Saints scout was visiting Glasgow.

The St. Mary’s club has been linked with a move for Rangers star Glen Kamara in recent months, the Premier League outfit one of 13 sides like to the Finnish international by TEAMtalk.

Had it been for Kamara then the scout would’ve been sorely disappointed as the midfielder didn’t play in the match.

Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson also moved to Ibrox from the Premier League side just last season and will likely still have contacts within the recruitment department of the club.

Whatever the case, it can only be good news when a team with the spending power of the Saints is in town to watch your club; it says plenty about the type of form Rangers are in.
