The agent of on-loan Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi has “personally” spoken with representatives of Premier League giants Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur regarding the Romanian talent.

Once considered one of the brightest young talents in world football, the 21-year-old son of ex-Barcelona and Real Madrid star Gheorghe is apparently still being tracked by some of Europe’s top club.

But whilst Giovani Becali revealed conversations with the Premier League sides, the player’s agent also thinks “Rangers will sign him”.

“I have been asked personally by Jose Mourinho and Txiki Begiristain about Ianis Hagi,” said Becali [Daily Mail].

“They wanted to know about him and how he was getting on. There’s a lot of top people in European football who know all about Ianis and what he can do.

“I happen to think Ianis is on a good plan at Rangers. I think Rangers will sign him because he is a player who has that little extra piece of creativity and skill.

“He has many other qualities and is actually more graceful than his father ever was. He runs like a gazelle compared to him! I think he is improving all the time at Rangers.

“He will continue to get better if he signs for them I think.”

The suggestion that City and Spurs are both monitoring the player’s progress is a good sign about the player’s potential.

Hagi has had an up-and-down experience at clubs across Europe since breaking through into his father’s Viitorul Constanța team as a teenager.

A €2m move to Fiorentina as a youngster didn’t go to plan whilst a later €8m move to Belgian side Genk led to his loan move to Rangers.

Since joining Rangers Ianis has made a strong impression but there remain questions over his consistency and ability to adapt to Scottish football.

Rangers are said to hold a €5m exclusive option-to-buy over the player with the Ibrox side favourites to sign Hagi in the summer.

Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur aren’t the only sides who’ve been linked with a move for the former European Golden Boy nominee.

Serie A club Lazio are also said to be interested [La Lazio] in signing the attacking midfielder in reports which have been defiantly played down by sources at Ibrox.
