Former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has congratulated the Ibrox side on reaching the Europa League Final as many question his move to Aston Villa.
The Liverpool legend spent three years in Glasgow and the bulk of the squad which played against RB Leipzig are players signed by him and the previous management team.
The early success of Gerrard in Europe formed the foundation of this achievement but it’s Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s tactical pragmatism that has taken us the next step.
Rangers have looked a more streetwise and drilled outfit under the Dutchman in Europe and it’s to Giovanni’s credit we’ve reached this stage.
But across the border in Birmingham Rangers having done so may raise some questions regarding Gerrard’s sudden exit to Aston Villa in November.
It was over in a flash as Gerrard and the backroom staff he assembled at the Rangers Training Centre upped sticks and headed south and for many it was a bitter pill to swallow.
With the Scouser having endured a mixed start at Aston Villa – albeit with the consensus he has improved on Dean Smith’s floundering campaign before – many will cast a glance north and the success he may well have enjoyed with Rangers.
Make no bones about it; Rangers are in with a shout v Frankfurt and this is the stuff of legend.

But despite this suggestion, when asked about the achievement, a “proud” Steven Gerrard congratulated the club and the players and made it clear what he wants to happen on May 18th.
“What a night, what a game, what an atmosphere for everyone connected to the club,” said Steven Gerrard [Sky Sports].
“Really proud of everyone connected to Rangers last night, it was a great game to watch.
“And, listen, it’s thoroughly deserved.
“The journey they’ve been on, Gio and the boys, everyone connected to the club deserve an awful lot of credit.
“One step to go, obviously I’ll be supporting from afar and I wish them all well.”
Classy as always, the ex-Rangers manager won’t be the only one as European football is captivated by the Ibrox side’s latest foray to the Europa League Final.
