Tomorrow night, Rangers’ will seek to consolidate their position at the top of the SPL with a win against Aberdeen.
The fixture will have extra significance, as the Gers will be out for revenge after their League Cup semi-final defeat to the same opposition. The Teddy Bears were without a match-fit striker that day and it should be a different story at Ibrox.
Confidence will be high in the camp following the weekend win at Hearts. As a result, it is unlikely that Steven Gerrard will make too many alterations to his starting line-up.
One enforced change is that Scott Arfield will miss the fixture due to suspension. He received a straight red card for a challenge on Hearts’ ‘keeper Zlamal and will need to be replaced.
The most likely beneficiary is Ryan Jack, who was deployed off the bench towards the end of Sunday’s victory. He should slot into the more defensive midfield role, granting more freedom to Lassana Coulibaly.
Elsewhere, I can foresee only one other alteration. Gerrard is likely to return 18-year-old Glenn Middleton to a starting berth on the wing in favour of Eros Grezda. He netted last time out at Ibrox and will be fresh after a rest at the weekend.
It would be surprising if Jon Flanagan was recalled at left back. Andy Halliday did a fine job there against Hearts and offers drastically better distribution than the scouser.
Goldson and McAuley should continue at the back, while Morelos will lead the line in search of a record breaking eighth consecutive match with a goal.
