The date of the final Rangers v Celtic clash of the season has been set and you can bet the usual Parkhead voices will be out demanding an Ibrox Guard of Honour.

The Gers’ disastrous Premiership campaign will finally come to an end in the coming weeks but not before the depressing final five league fixtures of the season are to be played.

Rangers will start their post split fixtures with home clashes against Aberdeen and Celtic, before trips to Hibs and St Mirren come either side of an Ibrox clash with Hearts.

Rangers fans will be counting down the days to 27th May so the club can move on from this shambolic season at Ibrox and look ahead to the next campaign and a summer of change at the club.

But with Celtic possibly set to be crowned Champions at Tynecastle the week before they travel to Rangers, let’s get in early and clamp any suggestion of a Guard of Honour.

Rangers owe Celtic nothing ahead of inevitable Guard of Honour chatter

We know that the likes of Chris Sutton and John Hartson – two cerebral powerhouses of the Scottish game – will be demanding recognition heading into the game but we’ll be damned if anyone at Ibrox gives them it.

Celtic refused to give Rangers a Guard of Honour back in the 55-winning season, much to the hilarity of our supporters, and you can be rest assured they won’t be getting one on the trip to Govan.

So before we start seeing tacky tabloid headlines or comments from the usual suspects let’s just get one thing clear; the only thing Celtic will be getting from Rangers at Ibrox is a barrage of good-hearted abuse and hopefully, a bloody nose heading into next season.

Anything but a victory in the weekend’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic will ensure that the trips to Ibrox in the coming week will be turgid, negative affairs, and maybe even half empty.

But whatever happens that clash with Celtic will be absolutely rammed as a full house of Rangers fans prepare to give our Old Firm rivals hell and lay down a marker heading into next season.

The final Rangers v Celtic match of the season will be hot, it’ll be feisty, and it’ll be aggressive, but it will not kick off with a Guard of Honour.
