Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has left his manager’s job at MLS side DC United amid links to replacing John Eustace at Birmingham City.

The legendary former England striker spent just over a year Stateside but has now been relieved of his duties after failing to qualify for the MLS playoffs for a second consecutive season.

But now reports are suggesting that Wayne Rooney is already being lined up to become manager of Birmingham City – if Rangers-linked John Eustace is to quit the Championship club.

The Mirror claim that Wayne Rooney is a major Birmingham City manager candidate despite claiming after leaving DC United that he has “nothing lined up”.

Wayne Rooney to replace Rangers-linked John Eustace at Birmingham City?

It comes with John Eustace apparently interesting sides in the Premier League and “elsewhere”, which could be a nod to links to Rangers.

The former midfielder spent time on trial at Ibrox at the end of his playing career and after impressing with Birmingham City, was being linked to Ibrox even before Michael Beale was sacked.

Whilst the sounds have gone a little quiet regarding John Eustace and the Rangers manager’s job, so long as the position isn’t filled there will continue to be murmurs.

Sky Sports were the last outlet to mention John Eustace and Rangers in the middle of last week, but since then the likes of Kevin Muscat, Philippe Clement and even Oliver Glasner have been more widely discussed.

The report claimed that John Eustace was interested in the Rangers manager’s job but there hasn’t been any substantiated reporting surrounding potential Ibrox interest.

But as Wayne Rooney leaves DC United and Birmingham City reportedly line him up as a John Eustace replacement, the suggestion is that the Rangers-linked manager is on the precipice of a St Andrews exit.

As Rangers fans continue to monitor the club’s new manager hunt, they’ll certainly have an eye on what happens next.
