Portsmouth fans have praised Rangers loanee Ross McCrorie for his display against Oxford United on Saturday.

For the second week running, a late equaliser from the opposition robbed Pompey of all three points, prompting supporters to demand the sacking of Kenny Jackett as manager.

The 57-year-old has been criticised for his substitutions, and to the disbelief of some, he took McCrorie off after 85 minutes, shortly before he was announced as Man of the Match.

The final result will be frustrating for the Gers loanee and his teammates. However, he can still use his individual display as something to build upon.

McCrorie was booked shortly before half-time for a mistimed sliding challenge but was otherwise immaculate.

He’s had to wait patiently for opportunities under Jackett following a red card on debut. Yet, with this his third consecutive league start, it seems he’s finally settling into the side at right-back.

In this fixture, he was solid defensively and provided support with attacking forays, as Pompey dominated at Fratton Park. The hosts failed to net from open play, but McCrorie provided an incisive pass in the build-up to their 58th-minute penalty award.

Despite the disappointing nature of the result, some fans went out of their way to praise the young Ger on social media, identifying him as a standout performer.
