Polarising former Rangers winger Sheyi Ojo has paid a touching tribute to Ibrox legend Fernando Ricksen, one year on from the Dutchman’s passing.
Rangers as a club was rocked in the aftermath of Fernando’s passing, his bravery and determination in battling Motor Neurone Disease an inspiration to the club’s fans.
Taking to Instagram, Ojo took a moment to remember former Gers captain Fernando as he celebrated returning to the football pitch with Cardiff after eight months away from the game.

The Liverpool winger – who is at the Cardiff City Stadium on loan – was a polarising figure on the pitch at Rangers but has always been complimentary of the club off it.
Despite enjoying an explosive start in royal blue the powerful winger’s Ibrox career drifted off into obscurity with game time at a minimum in the second half of the campaign.
But Ojo will probably be most remembered for scoring the winner in a 1-0 Europa League tie against Feyenoord with Ibrox decked out in Oranje in tribute to Fernando Ricksen.
It’s a moment Sheyi will likely never forget and it helped us to a vital three points in the group stages, eventually playing an all-important role in us qualifying from the group.
He might not have always set the Ibrox pitch alight during his time in Glasgow but paying tribute to Fernando is a nice touch from a player Rangers fans will hope finds his feet in football somewhere.
Now 23, Ojo will be hoping to light-up the Championship this season in the Welsh capital.
No matter how things went at Rangers you certainly cannot fault Ojo for his attitude towards the club’s fans, for whom the winger has always had the highest respect.
When leaving the club Ojo took to social media to write:

“You guys gave me love & some moments in my life I’ll never forget. Thank you.”
