Lewis Ferguson has only just returned to the Bologna team after a long injury lay-off.

The midfielder snapped his cruciate ligament last season as his side chased Champions League qualification and was ruled out for the rest of that campaign and a decent chunk of this one.

But he recently made his return, an eight-minute cameo off the bench in a Serie A win over Lecce.

He has since made two Champions League appearances, again as a sub against Monaco before starting and donning the captain’s armband once again in a defeat to Lille.

Ferguson then captained Bologna to an Italian Cup win over Monza as him and his teammates move closer to cup glory by reaching the quarter finals.

Before his injury blow the former Rangers academy player, who recently reflected on his Ibrox release, was being linked with serious moves to some of the biggest clubs in the world.

Juventus were believed to be the ones most aggressively pursuing him.

Lewis Ferguson wanted by AC Milan

Lewis Ferguson may have just 168 minutes under his belt since returning from eight months out with that cruciate injury, but the transfer stories are back already.

This time it is AC Milan who are reportedly keen on him.

MilanLive.it are reporting the Italian giants are weighing up a move for the Bologna ace and add that the player would be open to the transfer.

Milan are performing below expectations this season and find themselves seventh in Serie A, and reportedly see Ferguson as an answer to their midfield problems.

Former superstar striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who now acts as an adviser to the club, is said to be a big admirer of the 25-year-old and has told them to go after him.

The report adds that Serie A rivals Juventus are still interested in the Scotland star also.

Ferguson wants Italy stay despite Premier League rumours

It is not only some of the biggest clubs in Italy looking to sign Ferguson with previous chatter indicating sides in France, Germany and England were also casting admiring glances.

But the former Aberdeen and Hamilton Accies star would prefer to stay in Italy if he does move away from Bologna.

His agent Bill McMurdo said previously:

We know that there was interest in the Premier League before the injury, but Lewis doesn’t feel he’s done in Serie A yet.

“It will always be rumored that Juve and other clubs are looking for him, but he is proud to be the captain of Bologna and he will continue to give 100 percent to the club.

“Lewis is a dedicated professional with huge ambitions, he has great self-belief and knows exactly what he wants to achieve in football.”
