Back in March, Rangers sent James Sands back to New York City as Michael Beale cut short the American’s 18-month loan spell.
The United States international actually claimed that Rangers wanted to keep him at Ibrox.
However, the £4.5m asking price set by New York City proved to be unaffordable for the Gers, with James Sands himself referencing the financial problems at Ibrox in recent years when explaining what happened.

The 22-year-old told MLS Soccer: “We were fully aware of the financial situation the club has been through. They went into administration, had other difficulties.
“We were all fully aware it was unlikely they would spend what they needed to spend to make the move permanent.
“They were very clear that they loved me as a player and would have been interested in keeping me, but the price was going to come between the two teams.”
Now, things have turned sour for Sands back in the United States.
James Sands struggling after Rangers departure
Well, the man born in Rye has now been on the receiving end of some strong criticism from New York City supporters, after the MLS side extended their winless run to seven games with a 3-1 defeat to Cincinnati.
Sands was told to show more effort by two supporters in footage captured by another fan inside the New York City FC Stadium, before he walked away after sharing his side of things for roughly a minute.
You can see a video of the moment below.
Sands has captained New York City in every one of these seven games without a win, with the American outfit only losing one of their last eight MLS games before he took the armband.
That isn’t to say he is the only one at fault, although that’s what the New York City supporters seem to think as they directed their anger at him.
Evidently, it is safe to say things have turned sour for Sands back in his homeland after Rangers sent him back to New York early.
