Aside from the obvious positives from the performance and result against Olympiacos, one of the main talking points has been James Tavernier sitting on the bench.
The Rangers captain found himself dropped from the starting XI for the second time in four games after previously suffering the same fate for St Mirren at home before being restored to face Aberdeen and Motherwell.
Philippe Clement explained his decision post-match and talked about how he wants more than one captain in his group.
And stand-in skipper Jack Butland also gave his take on the situation.
It seems as if it won’t be the last time Tavernier has to be happy with a spot on the bench as the manager watches his load at the age of 32.
Clement makes too much of Tavernier Rangerssituation
The Englishman remains the club captain so clearly it is going to be a big talking point when he doesn’t play.
The manager is always going to be asked about it and has to give an answer.
But Rory Loy thinks he should play it down a bit more and says the Belgian makes it too much of a talking point.
The former Rangers academy striker reckons it doesn’t have to be anything bigger than admitting he’s being taken out because of a form dip.
He told the BBC’s Scottish Football Podcast: “It’s difficult to say what’s happened with James Tavernier in terms of conversations. I think all you need to say is ‘his form has dipped slightly and I’m taking him out of the team.’
“I don’t think that’s a big deal. I think he (Clement) makes a bigger deal of things than there has to be.
“As for James Tavernier, I think he should have gone in the summer. People talk about his stats, goals and contributions. Amazing and you want that in your team. But it was a reliance. If you’re relying on your full-back for goals and assists then there’s an imbalance and a massive problem.
“You need to have your strikers and forward players contributing. Tavernier’s goals and assists have dried up and because they’ve relied on him for so many years it’s becoming abundantly obvious the players around him simply aren’t up to contributing.
“On the back of that Tavernier is getting stick which I think is quite harsh. Of course he’s got his flaws and he deserves criticism if he’s not performing but I think he’s been a little bit of a victim of his own success.”
Vaclav Cerny and Nedim Bajrami step up for Rangers
In answer to Loy’s claim about nobody else stepping up, it’s fair to say it might have been accurate at one point.
But, to be fair to Vaclav Cerny and Nedim Bajrami, they are contributing and arguably getting better as they go.
The Czech winger has six goals and five assists since signing on loan from Wolfsburg in the summer while Bajrami has three and two in slightly fewer appearances.
It’s still early days for both in a Rangers shirt and it hasn’t been all perfect but both are showing signs they CAN step up and deliver those goal contributions Loy claims aren’t there.
