Philippe Clement Rangers future forecast as demands made

Rangers won their second league game in a row yesterday at what is hopefully the start of a long unbeaten run.

But the challenge is now to ensure that consistency in performance and results does in fact come.

That is what will change the atmosphere around the place and get fans thinking that this squad and manager can get themselves on the right track.

Grinding out wins when not at your best is a start but the support want to see a level of performance too.

Hearts could have got something out of the game at Ibrox yesterday and the Gers team do deserve credit for hanging on. But improvements will be sought.

How Philippe Clement can stop questions about Rangers future

It has seemed Philippe Clement has been at a crossroads for a few weeks now. Basically since defeat to Kilmarnock.

Dissenting voices started to pick up then and they grew even louder after losing at Aberdeen.

In between there have been good European displays and results against FCSB and Olympiacos at the same time as grinding out wins domestically.

But there is still an element of pressure on the manager, even if the intensity of it has dropped off the back of a couple of wins.

Will it ever fully go away? Alan Hutton says it will if the Belgian can get his team to find the consistency.

Asked when the talk around Clement’s future will die down, the former Rangers star told Premier Sports: “When the consistency is there in the performance. I think that’s when it will stop.

“When yes, they’re getting victories, but consistently playing to a high level.

“Because that’s the demands of this football club at this moment in time and it always has been. It will never change.

“So you have to get to that level. Everybody has to be playing and pulling in the one direction.

“I’ve always said this season that it’s going to be a little bit inconsistent just with the turn around in the squad and everything that’s going on at the club at this moment in time.

“You need the stability and you need the performances so hopefully we’re starting to see that now.”

Rangers fans boo Philippe Clement decision

Some of the support remain unconvinced by the manager and there were audible boos for one of his decisions at Ibrox.

The manager opted to take off Connor Barron after 68 minutes to replace him with Dujon Sterling.

Supporters have been really pleased with the efforts of the young midfielder, especially against Olympiacos, and were miffed to see him go off.

Clement gave his take on the situation when quizzed at full-time.

He said: “They (the fans) don’t know everything, of course. I’m very pleased about Connor and what he is doing in this game and the games before. He has been massive.

“But it is also managing players who are getting tired, who have never played so many minutes in their career at this level.

“So it’s managing Connor also in this way.

“I think the fans will be less pleased if he gets an injury because he played too much or too long.
