Philippe Clement has confirmed that Leon Balogun will see a specialist on a facial injury sustained in the weekend’s win over Livingston.
The Belgian manager had previously explained that the Nigerian international defender, 35, had suffered a facial fracture following the 3-0 victory over the Lions.
The Rangers boss was clear that whilst the press might be hungry for an update on the player, he wasn’t going to advise anyone on Leon’s situation until the centre-back has seen a specialist.
Philippe Clement on Leon Balogun injury
Speaking ahead of the clash with Aberdeen, Philippe Clement was asked to give an update on the injury situation with Leon Balogun.
The Belgian stated that he does not know the extent of the injury as things stand, yet was quizzed multiple times about the player’s situation.
“Leon, I don’t know yet,” said Clement. “He’s this afternoon with the surgeon to speak about the surgery, what is necessary with the specialist to see if he needs surgery or not, and then we will know better.
“So he will also not be selectable tomorrow.”
Pressed on specific details, Clement said: “No he’s with a specialist today, so he will decide what is the surgery. I am not a doctor or specialist.”
Leon Balogun has been a regular player and trusted lieutenant under Philippe Clement, the defender having made 11 starts since the ex-Monaco manager came into Ibrox.
Rangers squad continues to be plagued
Leon Balogun wasn’t the only injury update ahead of the clash with Aberdeen, with some good news on fellow defender Ben Davies.
Davies, 28, hasn’t been seen since the 3-2 Europa League victory over Real Betis but is closing in on a return, whilst Kemar Roofe has also stepped up his recovery.

Recently returned Ryan Jack will rotate out of the squad to avoid injury, whilst Abdallah Sima and Danilo remain out for the long-term.
Philippe Clement is yet to have a full squad to pick from at Ibrox with the injury to Leon Balogun simply another hurdle to cross in a difficult season of medical issues at Rangers.
