Philippe Clement insults Rangers fans with points gap claim as worrying trend continues

Since the opening day of the season, Philippe Clement has been one poor result away from a crisis and from losing his job at Rangers.

That the best run of results that the manager has seen this campaign includes two draws – one of which was losing the Premier Sports Cup final – says it all about the Belgian’s security in the Ibrox hotseat.

Defeat to St Mirren wasn’t a surprise given the dismal away form with Clement having to make half-time changes again to see an improvement, an issue that the Rangers boss just doesn’t seem capable of fixing.

Philippe Clement buries his head in the sand as Rangers struggle

Worryingly, Clement is burying his head in the sand.

When asked about the now 12-point gap to Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, he said:

“Yeah, we don’t need to start calculating in that way. We need to show the level we showed in the second half in every game.

“We know from the start of the season that we have a new project and building something.

“There was consistency during two months, which is a long time. The reaction was there was also a second half, so it’s not that we start from zero again.

“But players need to learn that the level they showed in the first half is not acceptable at Rangers. You cannot have that.”

Is Rangers away form a sackable offence?

If it was the first time this happened all season, then Clement might be forgiven.

However, Hearts, Kilmarnock, Aberdeen, Celtic and now St Mirren have taken points off Rangers on their own grounds.

What makes matters worse, is that Rangers never looked like winning any of these games and didn’t deserve to either.

Ross County, St Johnstone and Dundee United are the only away wins of the season and just one of those was comfortable.

In total, Clement has 10 points out of 24 in the league away from home this season, they might not be starting from zero, but one good performance out of eight games isn’t good enough as Rangers manager.

Turning up for 45 minutes every game is why there is a 12-point gap and Clement is just as culpable as the players.
