Philippe Clement hasn’t been at Rangers long but has already shown that he is a man of his word with his management of Ross McCausland.

The Northern Ireland international is fast becoming a favourite amongst the support due to his bravery in possession, maturity and desire to make something happen when he has the ball.

What Philippe Clement has proven is that he wiling to play young players if they meet the conditions that he has set with Rangers now having a real player in Ross McCausland.

Rangers have right-wing solution in Ross McCausland

Chances don’t come along very often for academy players to break into the first team squad at Rangers but the 20-year old has set the standard for others to follow.

He has shown a maturity beyond his years and has made a contribution in every game in which he has featured.

So much so that the Gers boss can now trust McCausland to be a regular starter.

Clement asked for patience with the youngster but he will be afforded it by an Ibrox crowd that is notoriously demanding.

Rangers fans have given Ross McCausland their backing because he deserves it, he has earned the acclaim, earning plaudits along the way.

He might not quite have the blistering pace of Rabbi Matondo, but he is still more than quick enough to beat most SPFL defenders when he gets the chance.

What he does bring though is more control when carrying the ball out of defence.

This attribute in particular, was effective against St Mirren in creating space for Todd Cantwell.

Being a natural winger who wants to stay wide also allowed James Tavernier to make his trademark back post runs and it nearly paid off with a knock down for Cantwell almost providing the opener.

There has been nobody consistently as productive as Ross McCausland has been since breaking into the Rangers team on the right wing and he deserves to keep his place.

His emergence might also have saved Clement a few pounds in the process.
