Rangers boss Philippe Clement has not spoken to former teammate Gary McAllister about life at Ibrox despite playing together in England.
Another new era has now started at Ibrox with Philippe Clement getting off to a perfect start.
The Belgian was appointed a week ago today and took charge of his first game on Saturday afternoon.
Rangers hammered Hibernian 4-0 at Ibrox with Abdallah Sima scoring a brace in a fine Ibrox victory.
Clement must be happy with that performance, but he is still settling in at Rangers and building his team around him.
Philippe Clement has not spoken to Gary McAllister
Some had wondered if Clement would have a chat with former Rangers coach Gary McAllister.
The pair crossed paths in the 90’s as Clement joined McAllister at Coventry City was back in 1998.
Clement and McAllister played a handful of games together at Coventry before going their separate ways.
McAllister would have been a great source of information for Clement having spent more than three years on the Ibrox coaching staff.
However, Clement has told The Scotsman that the pair have not spoken with Thomas Buffel the only former Rangers player he contacted.
Clement wanted to find out about Rangers for himself rather than hear all about somebody else’s experiences, meaning he hasn’t spoken to McAllister at all.
“No, because I want to make my own decisions. If people talk about their experiences, it’s always their story and what happened with them. Everybody’s different,” said Clement.
“I am not going to take a decision on what somebody else tells me. It’s always good to have information, I had information from Thomas, but the most important thing for me was to talk with the people who are inside the club – how they think about things, how they want to do things, what they thought are not the good things that were happening, what they think are the problems with the club at the moment.”
“I liked that they were really open and honest about that. I liked that because I am also a person like that,” he added.

My view: McAllister should be an option for Clement staff
We suggested last week that Clement should not only call McAllister but also target him for a Rangers return.
Rangers are keen to have a Scottish coach working alongside Clement and McAllister ticks the boxes.
The Scot is an experienced coach who knows exactly what it takes to win at Rangers having won a league title alongside Steven Gerrard.
Add in Clement’s history with McAllister and we think a reunion would make plenty of sense.
Maybe Clement wants to go in a completely different direction by landing a younger coach, but we think McAllister should be in the picture.
