A petition has been launched to reverse the decision to remove Paul Gascoigne’s nomination for Scottish football’s Hall of Fame.

The former Rangers hero has certainly went through the emotions last week. Initially, he was scheduled to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, before several SFA members threatened to boycott the event. Controversy surrounded the decision, before it was then removed. The decision has been the main talking point of Scottish football over the last few days.

The reversal has angered many connected with Rangers and English football. Vinnie Jones and Ally McCoist described the decision to remove the nomination as “disgraceful” and “embarrassing” respectively.

Now, however, it appears a section of supporters are trying to do something about it.

A petition is underway to get Gascoigne back recognised again. The petition believes that the honor should be based on footballing matters alone, and praised Gascoigne’s impact on Scottish football.

“Paul Gascoigne was an absolutely phenomenal footballer. The world watched with baited breath every time he got the ball as we knew magic was on the horizons.

The SFA should have been counting their lucky stars to have such a player within their leagues.”

The SFA have shown themselves up once more

Yet again, the whole farce was just symbolic of how the SFA runs their organisation. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, however.

Recently, it had been the SPFL who were copping flak for their Betfred Cup fiasco. Just as that ridiculous saga ends, we now have the SFA trying to one-up their partners with this decision on Gazza.

Regardless of what side of the fence people sit on, the SFA need to take some responsibility here. For them to take him off after initially putting him up for nomination is a disgrace. The fact that Gascoigne himself suffers from mental health problems only adds to the disgrace. The fact that the decision was made ON Mental Health Awareness day is a joke.

A decision to either nominate Gascoigne or not should’ve been made and agreed beforehand. On a personal level, it will hurt the England legend to see himself be honored only for it to be ripped from him. For someone struggling with mental health issues, he shouldn’t have had to deal with that.

The SFA should therefore hang their heads in shame about how they’ve handled the situation.
