Once upon a time Peter Bosz was a contender for the Rangers job, now, he could be the man that Michael Beale needs to outsmart in Champions League qualifying.

The former Lyon and Bayer Leverkusen boss has just been appointed at PSV Eindhoven who the Light Blues could face again in the play-off round shoot out.

Having beaten us with two previous teams, Peter Bosz will be hoping to continue his form over Rangers if the sides are drawn again.

Peter Bosz and the Rangers connections

When Giovanni van Bronckhorst was sacked last November, Peter Bosz emerged as a serious target for Rangers given his elite level experience.

Not only that, but we had seen at first hand the quality of football that both Lyon and Leverkusen were capable of.

With a quality squad, PSV could be a real threat to our hopes of Champions League qualification.

Cody Gakpo might have left Eindhoven, however, former Gers-linked winger Crysencio Summerville has been mooted with a move to his homeland.

The Leeds Utd winger has been tipped to be one of the relegated Premier League side’s departures this summer.

A loan move to Rangers had been reported under Steven Gerrard but nothing concrete ever emerged as the 21-year old went from playing reserve team football to a regular starter.

All hopes of a cut price move evaporated.

The two teams were evenly matched last season but it was Van Bronckhorst’s superior knowledge of continental football that saw us edge out a more pragmatic Ruud van Nistelrooy.

If he had the chance to play the fixture again, Xavi Simons, another name mentioned as a possible Rangers target, would probably have been given more game time.

Bosz is a solid appointment by PSV, however, in Michael Beale, Rangers have a tactician who is equally adept at setting up a team in Europe.

Although, I’m sure as two of the highest seeded teams in qualifying, they would want to avoid a reunion.
