Rangers wanted to sign Aaron Hickey when Steven Gerrard was in charge of the Gers, but just as the Ibrox club were disappointed in their transfer endeavour at the time, it seems that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will also receive a blow.
Back in 2019, The Scottish Sun reported that Ross Wilson, then the Rangers sporting director, wanted to sign Hickey in January 2020.
Wilson was reportedly going to recommend then Rangers manager Gerrard to make a £2 million bid for the Scotland international full-back.
Hickey, now 20, did not join Rangers.
The full-back moved to Bologna in the summer of 2020.
Then in the summer of 2022, Hickey joined Brentford in the Premier League.
And his impressive performances for Brentford has attracted the attention of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
The Scottish Sun reported on April 2023 that defending champions City are keen on signing the 20-year-old Scotland international full-back.

Brentford reportedly value the full-back at £30 million, but Bees manager Thomas Frank has publicly said that he will not sell Hickey.
This means that just like Rangers in 2019, City could be set for disappointment over Hickey.
Thomas Frank on one-time Rangers target Aaron Hickey amid Manchester City rumour
Frank said, as quoted in Football Scotland: “We will not sell him. He’s not even been here a year.
“With all due respect, I think he’s a very good young player that I think has a fantastic future ahead of him.
“There needs to be a little bit more to get into the City team in terms of performances.
“I think he’s done well and I really like him. I think he can get up there.”
