Paul Murray has spoken about the progress made over recent years and the reign of Steven Gerrard, as quoted by the Scotsman.
The former Rangers director was involved in the club at board level on and off from 2007.
However, in May last year, he resigned from his post and now watches on purely as a fan.
He believes that while there might not be any silverware yet, in relative terms, the Gers have improved considerably in recent years.
“It’s over four years since Dave King, John Gilligan and myself came back into the club and I don’t think any of us thought it would be a short-term project because the damage that had been done over a number of years would be hard to repair,” said Murray, as quoted by
the Scotsman.
“We took over on 6 March and the next day we went to Cowdenbeath and drew 0-0 with a side that had lost 10-0 to Hearts the previous week.
“So I think we have come a long way from that point. We would have liked to have won the league by now but I think there has been steady progress.

“Everyone is a genius in hindsight in terms of decisions that have been made. You can look back and say ‘that was a wrong decision’.
“But football is one of these sports and businesses where there are things that you can’t control – players losing form, injuries, players want to leave, managers want to leave.”
Verdict
When put in those terms, things are looking a whole lot rosier these days.
The Gers did still have to travel to Central Park this season. The fixture was in the Scottish Cup, though, rather than the league.
Furthermore, Rangers have returned to a position of dominance over Hearts. On Saturday, an excellent away performance ensured the Gers have won all four meetings between the sides this season.
Going forward, major trophies are obviously the next big aim. Yet, it’s certainly worth looking back every now and then, to see just how far the club has come in a relatively short space of time.
