Passionate Rangers fan and Travis bassist Dougie Payne has pronounced his love for £3.5m summer signing Kemar Roofe in an interview with BBC Sport.
The Scottish rocker was taking part in predictions with ex-Liverpool hero Mark Lawrenson ahead of a midweek card in the English Premier League.
But the Glasgow-born bassist’s attention was very much on Rangers as he discussed the progress made by the Gers this season.
“It has been a rough few years for the club and a little bit of scar tissue has built up from that – so you are kind of always waiting for the safe to drop on your head, and things to revert back to being as bad as they were,” said Payne.
“But it has to be said that things are going really well right now. Gerrard has really turned things around and the players he has signed have slotted right in.
“We are not just getting good results, we are playing really well too. Scotty Arfield has hit some incredible form and I love Kemar Roofe.”
Payne was speaking to BBC Scotland a couple of months after the release of Travis’ new album 10 Tunes and ahead of a planned tour in 2021.
The bassist’s comments also come with Rangers 13 points clear in the Scottish Premiership and unbeaten in 27 games so far this season.
Steven Gerrard has also guided Rangers to the last 32 of the Europa League for the second season on the bounce.
Roofe, 27, has also played a big part of all of this and has been a revelation since joining the Gers in the last transfer window.
The ex-Anderlecht and Leeds United striker eight goals in 14 games for Rangers already this season and is emerging as a fan favourite at the club.
Rangers midfielder Scotty Arfield – another singled out for praise by Payne – has also fought his way back from the fringes to become an essential part of Steven Gerrard’s team.
