Rangers are not eyeing a move for Maccabi Tel-Aviv midfielder and ex-Barca triallist Parfait Guiagon despite reports in Israel to the contrary.
Football Scotland are claiming that any suggestion Rangers might be looking at the 22-year-old Ivory Coast midfielder are currently wide of the mark.
The reports suggests that, while Maccabi Tel-Aviv are open to selling the player this summer, Parfait Guiagon is not a Rangers transfer target as the club look ahead to a big transfer window.
Rangers ‘not looking to sign Parfait Guiagon’
Rangers were linked with a move for Guiagon in Israel, with the player’s super agent representation Dudu Dahan having taken the likes of Nir Bitton, Liel Abada and Ismaila Soro across the city.
Israeli outlet ONE also claimed that Rangers were facing competition from an unnamed club in Greece and, given the player’s early-career reputation, it turned a few heads at Ibrox.
The midfielder was previously touted for the very top, having been included in the Guardian’s top 60 young talents in 2018, with the paper citing trials at La Liga giants Barcelona in their reporting.
While it has been a decent season for Guiagon in Israel, the midfielder impressing with 110 successful dribbles from 189 attempts this campaign, Rangers are reportedly not interested.
It could just be agent talk as the player’s representatives try to drum up interest, with Rangers an easy way to give your players exposure ahead of the transfer window.
It wouldn’t be for the first time but it appears Rangers’ midfield targets are elsewhere, with Kieran Dowell officially announced and Jose Cifuentes reportedly closing in on a move.
Although Rangers don’t appear to be interested, Guiagon has played 37 times for Maccabi Tel Aviv this season, scoring four goals.
After coming through at Africa Sports in his home country, the midfielder has also spent time on loan at Beitar Tel Aviv Bat Yam and Maccabi Netanya since joining Maccabi Tel Aviv.
