One-time reported Rangers striking target Eamonn Brophy is set for a surprise Scottish Premiership move to St. Mirren, according to reports.
The Daily Record claim that the Buddies incredibly pipped Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts and St. Johnstone to sign the Scotland international on a pre-contract deal from Kilmarnock.
That report claimed that the Paisley side have “financially beaten” the other Scottish Premiership sides to secure the 24-year-old.
English clubs such as Championship outfits Barnsley and Luton Town are also quoted as being interested but apparently St. Mirren’s offer was “just too good to turn down.
STV have since claimed that St. Mirren want to complete the deal in January in a move which would considered a major coup should Jim Goodwin’s side pull it off.
Rangers were linked to Brophy in a surprise report last season, TEAMtalk claiming that Steven Gerrard had an eye on the Scotland striker.
A product of the Celtic and Hibs youth system, it’s highly unlikely this would’ve been a suitable move for both parties and one which fans probably couldn’t see getting off the ground.
Brophy started his professional career at Hamilton before earning a move to Kilmarnock in 2017 after loan spells with the likes of Queen’s Park and Dumbarton.
Brophy’s been on stuttering form in a stuttering Kilmarnock side this season, scoring four goals in 17 games for Alex Dyer’s struggling team.
Whilst any prospective Rangers move for Eamonn Brophy never seemed like a goer, the club is reportedly closing in on a deal for a different striker altogether.
