Steven Gerrard’s appointment at Rangers has drawn international recognition, but it’s an old friend back home in Liverpool that’s been giving the gaffer plaudits recently. James Milner’s backing Gerrard at Ibrox and revealed that he “leans” towards the blue side of Glasgow too.
Speaking to
Milner said:
“Stevie is obviously a big name and a successful player
“It is early days in his managerial career, but if he is half as good a manager as he was a player he will do very well.
“You can look at it both ways. It is tough, it is high profile, it is big pressure? But that is normal for him. It would be harder for him if there wasn’t the spotlight on him and a stadium of fans demanding success. It is probably something that drives him on.”

The 61-times capped 32-year-old backed Gerrard to come through the biggest week of his Rangers career in a better position they went it. It bodes well for Rangers fans.
Up next for Rangers are FC Ufa. The Ibrox club take a slender lead into the tie and will be up against it in Eastern Russia. To make matters more intense, they play Celtic three days later at Parkhead. With a 6000-mile return trip in between. It’s a huge week but one Milner believes his old teammate can handle.
