Rangers defender Borna Barisic was left out of the Croatia squad as they defeated Cedric Itten’s Switzerland 2-1 in an international friendly.
Striker Cedric Itten came off the bench to earn his third cap for Switzerland but Barisic didn’t make the squad as fears will now grow about an injury sustained against Ross County.
The two players were pictured together pre-match with Croatia coming back from a goal down to win the match.
Mario Gavranovic opened the scoring for Switzerland before Josip Brekalo equalised a few minutes before half time.
Mario Pasalic then rounded off the scoring mid-way through the second half as Croatia edged out a victory in St. Gallen.
Talented full-back Barisic hobbled off the pitch in Rangers’ 2-0 win over the Staggies but was obviously deemed fit enough to travel with the Croatia squad for this round of internationals.
Attention will turn to whether Barisic will be risked for Croatia’s match with Sweden which is set to take place this Sunday.
Rangers’ first game back after the international beak will be the first Old Firm of the season against Celtic and Barisic would be a big blow if he would miss the game.
Rangers assistant manager Gary McAllister assured fans the injury was minor after the match with Ross County.
“It’s just a blow, it was just below his shinpad. It’s nothing serious. It’s some studs mark below his shin pads,” said McAllister [Daily Record].

“Connor was feeling a wee bit of cramp, we don’t think that’s a problem either.
“Everyone has come through okay and now we’re hoping everyone goes away on international duty and comes back healthy.”
