‘Offers nothing’ – Ex Rangers star’s struggles continue as media slaughters form

Things are not quite going as well as hoped for the ‘new Rangers’ after Philippe Clement got his first summer window to put his stamp on things.

They could of course still come good.

And some former Gers stars will be hoping the same can be said for them as the early days suggest the grass may not be greener elsewhere.

Ryan Jack is playing in the Turkish second tier while Kemar Roofe is still without a club. And they join the likes of Ryan Kent and Antonio Colak in struggling to improve their fortunes after leaving Ibrox.

Borna Barisic and John Lundstram are in Turkey like Jack after both signing on for Trabzonspor on free transfers and are also not having a great time of it.

John Lundstram Trabzonzspor form questioned

Lundstram has played 16 times for his new club to date, 10 in the Turkish Super Lig and six in Europe, both in Europa League qualifying and Conference League qualifying.

The vast majority have been starts with a few subs appearances sprinkled in and the 30-year-old is yet to find the net or provide an assist.

He is, to be fair, more of a defensive midfielder but he did manage to chip in with a few important goals while in Glasgow. Leipzig at home, anyone?

Lundstram has already found himself questioned in the Turkish media and he has since done little to win them over.

Pundit and former Turkey midfielder Sergen Yalcin is not a fan and thinks he brings nothing to the Trabzon side.

He told Turkish TV: “Trabzonspor has a player John Lundstram. He is a flat midfielder who offers absolutely nothing. He’s not alone because they have many players like that.

“He does not provide any contribution to the team, he does not make any difference to the team at all. He is not good enough for Trabzonspor. This is a team who were supposed to be going for the title. They are full of players who are not good enough to do that.”

Borna Barisic struggles at Trabzonspor too

Things are not going much better for former Rangers teammate Barisic at the same club.

The Croatian left-back started the first league game of the season but remains the only time he was picked in the XI for a Super Lig match.

He has since made four subs appearances and his minutes played in those adds up to a grand total of 18.

Barisic did play every minute of Trabzonspor’s doomed two-legged Conference League qualifier against St Gallen but prior to that had only been used from the bench in the Europa League.
