The Daily Record has been quick to rubbish a report linking Rangers with a move for Bolton striker and Northern Ireland international Josh Magennis.

The news outlet was speaking in response to a report linking the big striker with a move to Ibrox [Belfast Telegraph]. The Northern Irish forward is also coming off the back of two winners for his country.

But according to the Record they’ve “checked out the story and strongly believe there’s nothing in it.”

They also suggest that it could be his representatives trying to engineer him a way out of Preston. Agents commonly use the press to stir up interest in a player and get other sides to take a closer look.

The inference here is that if Josh Magennis is good enough to play for Rangers, he’s surely good enough to play for other Scottish Premiership sides.

The big battering ram of a forward serves a purpose but there are major doubts over his ability to play at Ibrox. As a result, there are major doubts about the outrageous transfer report.

Rangers appear to be on the hunt for another striker in the window with the likes of Mirko Maric [Daily Record] and Karim Ansarifard [Football Insider] being linked to the club.
