There is “nothing in” the suggestion German side Bayer Leverkusen are interested in signing Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos, according to a Scottish sports journalist.
Stefan Bienkowski claims that reports linking Rangers’ Europa League foes to the Colombian firebrand are wide of the mark with their focus on Czech forward Patrik Schick.
Bienkowski claims:
“I’m told Bayer Leverkusen aren’t interested in Alfredo Morelos.
“The Bundesliga club are set to sign Patrik Schick.
“May want a second striker if Lucas Alario moves on but the club haven’t identified the Rangers player as a potential replacement. Nothing in the Colombian story.”
These claims come after Morelos was linked to Bayer Leverkusen in the Colombian press alongside fellow Bundesliga outfit VFB Stuttgart [Don Balon].
That report claimed that Leverkusen made a “concrete offer” to sign the 24-year-old striker but this has now been rubbished by Bienkowski.
Patrik Schick, a 24-year-old Czech international forward, signed for current club AS Roma in a club-record deal back in 2017.
The structured deal could eventually wind up costing Roma £37.5m (€42m), exceeding the £32m (€36m) the Rome club paid for Gabriel Batistuta in 2000.
His time at the Stadio Olimpico has been marred by injury troubles and confidence issues which mean Leverkusen could secure his services for considerably less than Roma paid.
Schick also spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig where he impressed, hitting 10 goals for the Bundesliga club.
But whatever the case Leverkusen are reportedly not interested in signing Alfredo Morelos, who has been courting interest from Ligue 1 side Lille all summer long.
Portuguese champions Porto have also been linked with a move for the striker [Scottish Sun].
