Rangers needed to revamp the forward line in the summer, however, rather than estabilshed or prolific strikers arriving, Cyriel Dessers arrived after a less than impressive spell in Italy.
Michael Beale should have seen that eight clubs in 10 years was probably a red flag but instead chose to spend upwards of £4.5m on a player fast approaching 30.
For a squad that needed fresh legs and a new approach, Rangers signing Cyriel Dessers was not what fans expected with the Nigeria international having another one of those moments this week.

Rangers need Cyriel Dessers to hit purple patch
With 16 goals and seven assists, the 29-year old has been ok but nothing more, his numbers not even close to reflecting what fans are seeing on the pitch.
In the league, he has 12 goals and two assists in 19 starts, very respectable, especially off an xG (expected goals) of 13.5 which suggests that he isn’t far away from scoring the chances that he should be.
We all know this isn’t true though and this latest incident representing Nigeria sums his season at Ibrox up.
For 95% of the move, he does everything right.
He takes the defenders towards the ball before spinning in behind.
Then, he takes two touches, one to take out the defenders and the second to open up the goal.
What happens next is a familiar sight though, especially in this sort of situation.
How many chances like this one has Dessers had for Rangers this season?
Off the top of my head I reckon there have been at least five, and that’s erring on the side of caution.
The two glaring ones being in the Old Firm at Parkhead and the Viaplay Cup final.
On this occasion though, I’m going to be kind.
Looking at where the ball goes and how it is rolling, it looks like it takes a slight bobble before Dessers hits it but, as an experienced striker, he should know that low and hard is probably the safer option on a dodgy surface.
He seems to get this sort of chance every other game and it has been the one thing stopping him from already being over 20 goals.
If he was, would he really have to put up with some of the criticism that he has seen?
One way to put an end to it all would be an Old Firm goal, especially if it was a winner.
If I was Philippe Clement, I wouldn’t let him leave the training ground until he knows what he is going to do in these situations, it could be the difference between winning and losing the league.
