The latest Rangers market value update was released on Transfermarkt in December and the club’s most lucrative player asset has been revealed.

Much has been said about Rangers‘ transfer activity in the summer. It became apparent to fans just a few weeks into the 2023/24 campaign under Michael Beale that the recruitment was shoddy and not conducive to a potential title-winning squad.

How things have changed. New boss Philippe Clement has transformed the current pool of first-team stars beyond belief and has a Viaplay Cup winner’s medal to show for it.

During his 15-game unbeaten run, Clement has revitalised players such as Cyriel Dessers and John Lundstram. Youngster Ross McCausland also broke onto the scene while Abdallah Sima has continued his immense run of scoring form under the Belgian.

And it means Transfermarkt have rewarded the latter two with significant market value increases, with both rising by £1m. Amid those highlights though, there has been arguably a bit of a surprise in regards to Rangers’ most valuable squad member.

Todd Cantwell equalled at the top

Todd Cantwell was previously noted as the Ibrox giants’ standalone most profitable player asset from the start of the season up until December.

Now, his fellow midfielder Nicolas Raskin sits proudly at the top alongside the Englishman. Transfermarkt now value the all-action Belgian at a whopping £8m, which is fantastic for a player signed for an initial £1.3m in January 2023.

His value soared by £500k for the latest update, with Todd Cantwell’s falling by £1m. However, it may come as a surprise given Raskin has been injured since the end of October.

He was stretchered off against Hearts with an ankle issue and suffered a new setback at the start of December, with Clement bemoaning his midfielder’s rehabilitation.

But regardless, Nicolas Raskin has saw his value jump with Cantwell and Jose Cifuentes filling in just behind him on the Rangers market value table.

Rangers total squad market value revealed

Rangers’ squad market value peaked at just under £150m during the 2021/22 campaign, which of course featured the memorable run to the Europa League Final.

But since then – and two manager sackings later – that overall value has sadly plummeted. The latest Transfermarkt December update has calculated the Govan giants’ total squad worth at just over €100m, or £86.6m if you like.

Even amid their incredible run of form, captain James Tavernier, midfielder John Lundstram and central defender Connor Goldson have all seen their values drop.

Age will no doubt be a factor in those decreases but it does seem rather unjust given what the trio – and many others in the squad under Clement – have contributed to Rangers lately.
