According to the Daily Record, a new TV deal is set to be agreed that will see Rangers and Scottish football broadcast around the world.

Broadcast giants beIN Sports are the interested party, with the deal to be announced in the next 24 hours. It’s a big step forward for Scottish football, as failing to find investment has been detrimental in recent years.

The deal means that Scottish football is set to be shown in 24 countries across the Middle East and North Africa. The likes of Australia and New Zealand will be able to watch Rangers and co in action live from their tv sets.

This is exactly the kind of exposure that Scottish football needs to grow. With so much negativity surrounding our game, getting increased exposure such as this is terrific. It can also be a key element in getting foreign players interested in coming to Scotland to ply their trade.

Cash amount not revealed

The actual cash amount involved in the deal has yet to be revealed. But the Daily Record believe the deal to be close, and what a boost it will be to Scottish football.

A deal had previously been agreed by MP & Silva regarding the broadcasting of Scottish football. This deal was agreed back at the start of the campaign, with beIN therefore forced to drop their interest.

But the media company defaulted on payments to the SPFL over the summer. This has now led to Chief Executive Neil Doncaster opening discussions wth potential media partners across the globe.

As it stands, it appears that beIN have won the right to broadcast our game’s best matches on foreign soil. The media giants have been known for showing a raft of leagues across Europe to many television screens. The likes of the Bundesliga and La Liga have had lucrative deals with them in the past.
