Rangers manager Michael Beale has confirmed that summer signing Dujon Sterling will join up with the Ibrox squad ahead of the clash with Hoffenheim after picking up an injury earlier in pre-season.
The Ibrox manager was talking after the 3-1 defeat to Olympiakos at Ibrox and ahead of the trip to Germany this weekend for the club’s final friendly match of pre-season.
Dujon Sterling is yet to feature for Rangers since joining the club on a free contract this summer, the versatile full-back’s contract at Chelsea expiring come the end of the season.
Picking up a calf injury ahead of Rangers’ Germany training camp, Dujon Sterling missed the trip to the country earlier in the summer and it’s not clear if he will do so again here.
However, Michael Beale is clear that Dujon Sterling is about to rejoin his teammates as he also provided an injury update on Connor Goldson, Leon King and Ryan Jack.
The Rangers boss also explained the absences of Tom Lawrence and Kemar Roofe from the friendly clash against Olympiakos at Ibrox.
“Tom and Kemar, we knew that coming back we needed to get a good week into them,” explained Beale.
“We thought the match minutes was good but they needed to have a big week [in training] into the game at the weekend.
“Ryan Jack will be back in the squad as well. Adam Devine trained yesterday, Dujon Sterling will train on Friday, Leon King’s back Monday and Connor Goldson will be back next Thursday.”
Dujon Sterling returns from injury for Rangers
This news is certainly positive for Rangers, who’ll look forward to the increased influence of Kemar Roofe and Tom Lawrence in the offensive part of the pitch this season.
Ryan Jack and Connor Goldson speak for themselves, whilst the injury to Adam Devine comes an interesting time for both the Scottish youth international and Dujon Sterling.
Whilst both are playing second fiddle to captain James Tavernier, we wonder how they fit into the team together as Dujon Sterling finally gets amongst a full squad of his teammates in Glasgow.
The clash with Hoffenheim on Saturday may well come too soon for the former Stoke City loanee, but Dujon Sterling will come back into the Rangers squad before the friendly.
