Neil McCann warns Rangers of Motherwell star who could ‘without question’ cause them problems

Rangers’ semi-final clash with Motherwell is one laced with potential jeopardy.

Obviously losing would mean crashing out of the Premier Sports Cup and not defending their trophy which in itself is far from idea.

But it would be second defeat in a row and third from five games for Philippe Clement as the pressure grows on him.

The Steelmen are a side on form, sitting just three points behind Gers in the league, and one which could potentially pull off a surprise result.

Tawanda Maswanhise Motherwell danger man vs Rangers

Tawanda Maswanhise has been identified as a Motherwell player who could be a threat to Rangers.

The wide man scored a double against Dundee United midweek to earn Stuart Kettlewell’s side a big result.

He’s looked a threat since arriving at Fir Park in the summer after being released by Leicester City.

Former Gers winger Neil McCann has warned of his dangers.

He told BBC Sportscene: “Without question. He’s a player that is going to be confident.

“Flexible. In wider areas comfortable, quick, direct. Playing through the middle, prepared to run in behind if you’re hitting on the counter attack.

“That was a classic away performance from a team. Dundee United dominated the match in terms of statistics but it was really professional from Stuart (Kettlewell).”

Tawanda Maswanhise can offer multiple threats

Another problem is Rangers might not necessarily know where Maswanhise will play.

He can operate wide or through the middle, from where he scored his midweek double.

Michael Stewart is another big fan and said: “Yeah, I remember his first start at Fir Park against Hearts and I was instantly impressed. He’s someone that’s got blistering pace and he’s got no shortage of quality as well which we saw with his second goal.

“He played a bit more centrally, we’ve seen him play in the wider areas.

“His second goal – driving through, great composure. That’s a brilliant finish, absolutely brilliant finish.

“I’m a big fan of Maswanhise. He’s been in and out but if he continues to deliver the goods like that he’ll be a mainstay in the Motherwell team.”
