As far as 100th games go, this one was pretty special for Borna given the left-back’s two goals but it also almost perfectly summed up Barisic’s career at Ibrox.
The defender had a stuttering first half of the match, giving away the foul for the free-kick which led to Antwerp’s equaliser to make it 1-1.
Barisic was at fault for the goal too, the ex-NK Osijek captain losing striker Felipe Avenatti who scored an admittedly impressive header from the edge of the box.
However in the second half Borna dusted himself off and improved dramatically, that trademark, swinging left-foot cross a huge feature of Rangers’ play.
Always an outlet on that left hand side, Barisic almost had the Gers level at 2-2 with a stunning cross for Ianis Hagi who’s put the ball agonisingly wide.
But it was to be Borna’s day in the end, the Croatian international stepping up to score his first from the spot after Alfredo Morelos had his shirt pulled by Ritchie de Laet.
After Antwerp had made it 3-2 and Ryan Kent hauled the Gers back into contention with a stunning strike to equalise, it was Barisic who’d steal the headlines, again from the spot.
Antwerp defender Abdoulaye Seck was sent off for a second bookable offence and the Gers awarded a spot kick after Seck used his hand to deflect Ryan Kent’s late strike.
Here’s how the Rangers players rated in the Europa League round of 32 tie with the Gers now in prime position to qualify for the last 16 next week.
