Motives behind Rangers Celtic debate clear after eight days of nonsense

It’s been a full eight days and 192 hours since Rangers beat Celtic at Parkhead, and yet nonsense dramas surrounding the match continue to rumble on.

The most deranged and desperate of the lot concerns the witch hunt around Rangers’ Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos.

Depending on what side you bat for, he’s either a maniacal throat-slitting death harbouring thug or an untouchable darling who’s immediately forgiven for his misgivings.

There’s no doubt Rangers fan can be lax when it comes to the wee man’s behaviour.

Morelos’ edge is what endears him so much to the support and if he continues to score goals that fire won’t be extinguished by anyone in royal blue.

But there is absolutely no delusion on the part of Rangers fans when it comes to the bitter conversation around the gesture Morelos allegedly makes to Celtic fans after being sent off.

There is nothing in it. Period. Finished. Move on. It is cultish, desperate stuff and anyone indulging it is running the risk of seriously embarrassing themselves.

Between the nasally whines of Chris Sutton, the obsessive behaviour of hurting rival fans on social media and claims Morelos could still be cited by the compliance officer [Scottish Sun], the hurt continues to stream out of Celtic Park over a week on from the result.

The Daily Record’s Monday Jury was even all over it this morning, although they also believe it is time to move on.

You have to think that this campaign – which has saw Morelos become the subject of unacceptable racist and sectarian abuse – has another motive.

Spare the faux moral outrage and bull crap, this is about trying to get Rangers’ best player banned in the hope of handing an advantage to Celtic in the tite race.

Convince me otherwise.
