Motherwell have appointed Stuart Kettlewell as their new manager as they take their appointment decision amid links to the likes of Rangers fan coach Grant McCann.

Ex-Hull City boss McCann was said to have made it onto the final three-man shortlist for the job with Ian Holloway the other name who’d been mentioned.

But now it is ex-Ross County manager Kettlewell who will take the reins as the Steelmen hope to stave off the threat of relegation.

This comes with Rangers’ Premiership rivals currently 9th in the Scottish top flight and Stuart Kettlewell having guided the club to back-to-back wins over St Mirren and Hearts.

“I’m immensely proud,” said new Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell [MFC].

“It’s been a whirlwind eight or nine days.

“I had a burning desire to take the job to see if I can take this club forward and be a catalyst to what we hope will be a good chapter for the football club.”

“I genuinely think I come to Motherwell a better manager than what I was previously and I hope that is something that appeals to the Motherwell supporters.

“There’s some real good players here. I wouldn’t have taken the job had I felt there was a real issue with the playing squad.

“This is a community club. It’s important that we join that up. I think this club is unique. It now becomes my job to drive it forward.”

Stuart Kettlewell named Motherwell manager

This means Rangers fan manager Grant McCann continues his hunt for a new job after being sacked from his role at English League One club Peterborough United in January.

Following the Gers’ 1-0 victory over Celtic in January 2021, a result which set the club on their way to the title, Grant McCann tweeted in celebration.

The Belfast boy’s Hull City team had also recorded a 2-0 win over Championship rivals Charlton on the same day, which McCann described as a “perfect Saturday”.

As Stuart Kettlewell is appointed at Motherwell, Leeds Utd have taken their decision on ex-Ibrox boss Steven Gerrard.
