Morelos suffers a blow but international career has only just started

Alfredo Morelos’ Colombia chances have taken a hit after he wasn’t included in their latest squad.

The Rangers striker was poor whilst partnering Kyle Lafferty in the 1-0 defeat to Livingston yesterday. The decison, however, had been made well before Livingston knocked off Rangers at the Toni Macaroni Arena.

Indeed, Colombia are now under new management, with Arturo Reyes taking charge of the side. His first squad will face the USA and Costa Rica later this month, but Morelos won’t be a part of it.

Instead, it appears that the new man has gone for more experience to his forward choices. The likes of Carlos Bacca and Juan Camilo are in there instead of the Rangers striker.

A blow for Alfredo

It’s a blow for Morelos, who did extremely well after coming on against Venezuela for Colombia last month. Despite missing a big chance, his overall performance was positive, and he earned rave reviews from the likes of Radamel Falcao after his appearance.

With Reyes only just in the hotseat, the omission isn’t too much of a surprise. The new man will want to get off to the best possible start, and will want his best players available.

Morelos has plenty of development left in him, and his international career has only just begun. It’s still a disappointment, however, that he won’t be given another chance to shine. Both matches are friendlies, and Morelos is capable of doing a job.

The youngster has been in good form for Rangers this season. He remains the club’s top scorer with eight goals in 18 competitive appearances so far.

Morelos will deservedly earn his way back into Colombia’s set-up at some stage in the future. The forward is a big prospect back in Colombia, and will get another chance.

In the meantime, it’s important that the forward helps to get Rangers back on track with a good display against Rapid Vienna in Thursday night’s Europa League clash at Ibrox.
