Morelos image suggests downed tools claims were accurate

Alfredo Morelos started last season in controversial fashion for Rangers after his return from injury under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The Colombian international suffered a thigh injury that required surgery but on completion of his rehabilitation had a more than questionable attitude to his fitness – his nose probably out of joint due to Antonio Colak’s form.

A move to Santos seems to have reinvigorated the 27-year old though with Alfredo Morelos looking leaner than his early days at the club.

Did Alfredo Morelos down tools at Rangers?

Other than discipline, the biggest criticism aimed at Alfredo Morelos in his time at Rangers was his conditioning.

He was never a natural athlete, however, his middle-weight boxer physique wouldn’t have been hard to maintain if he had put his mind to it.

El Bufalo didn’t need to be a sprinter but there is no way that he should have been in the shape he was as a professional footballer.

Posting on Instagram, the enigmatic striker looked in the sort of shape that he should have been throughout his time at Rangers.

Which begs the question – did he down tools?

It certainly looks like it now.

Two sub par Old Firm displays in the closing weeks of his Gers career were a far cry from the title winning demolitions when he used to bully Celtic’s back four on his own.

Excuses were always made by his fiercest defenders about how his physique was purely down to his body type.

This picture shows that it was attitude – if he’d wanted to, he could have done more.

Alfredo Morelos was a great Rangers signing for £1m but he should have left for more money and to a top five league club with more medals in his back pocket.

It is too little, too late, but it looks like he has learned his lesson.
