Moises Caicedo’s £111m Liverpool snub may have scuppered Rangers sale

As far as the Moises Caicedo saga goes, Liverpool are far from the only club who’s transfer plans may have been disrupted by the Ecuadorian’s apparent reluctance to complete that Premier League-record £111 million move to Anfield.

With Caicedo leaning towards Chelsea rather than their rivals from the north west, Sky Sports reports that a man who might have arrived in his place at Stamford Bridge – Tyler Adams – is returning to Leeds after the collapse of his proposed £20 million move to the English capital.

And that brings us, in a rather roundabout way, to Rangers

Glen Kamara, per the Yorkshire Evening Post, is a £5 million Leeds target to Leeds. If Chelsea’s seemingly-successful pursuit of Caicedo has ki-boshed Tyler Adams’ move to Stamford Bridge, then the prospect of Kamara leaving Rangers for Yorkshire – the Finland international looked a readymade replacement for the energetic USA international – might have just become that little bit more doubtful.

Glen Kamara still likely to leave Rangers

Kamara started only one of Rangers’ last 12 league games in 2022/23. Opportunities have been even harder to come by this term, the former Dundee playmaker left out by Beale against both Kilmarnock and Servette. He now finds himself behind Jose Cifuentes, Kieran Dowell, Nicolas Raskin, Ryan Jack and John Lundstram in Rangers’ midfield pecking order.

“We’ve wanted to trim the squad so expect two or three more to go,” Beale told The Herald last week. “Kamara and (Fashion) Sakala are away from the squad just now discussing some things.

“So there might be some movement in the coming days.”

Moises Caicedo sends ripples through transfer market

Sakala, since then, has sealed his long-awaited, much-mooted switch to Saudi Arabia. The smart money is still on Kamara following in his footsteps sooner rather than later, even if Leeds’ pursuit may be on pause for the time being.

Leeds Daniel Farke was effusive in his praise for midfield duo Archie Gray and Ethan Ampadu in their opening 2-2 draw with Cardiff, even if he is also aware of the need for further additions.

The good news, as far as Kamara is concerned, is that there are still a number of doors open, even if a window of opportunity at Leeds may be closing.

The Herald add that there is interest from Lyon, Stade Reims, Trabzonspor, Galatasaray, FC Copenhagen and even Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach.
