Jermain Defoe impressed RangersTV commentator Miller on Wednesday night and he tipped the Bournemouth loanee for big things going forward.
“Rangers know what they’re going to at Fir Park”, Miller said on the Official Rangers Podcast, about the upcoming away trip.

“But, they’ve learned a lot from tonight [the win over Hearts].
“Steven Gerrard said himself he’s learned a lot about the players over recent weeks and I think that intensity, that relentless pressure when you don’t have the ball and the clinical finishing, as we witnessed again from Jermain Defoe [needs to be shown again].
“Six goals – he’s had to be patient to get game time. But, I think if he gets a wee bit more sharpness about him, he’s got all the qualities to be an absolute standout. Remembering, he’s got another year of his loan ahead.”

Verdict

As Miller says, Defoe has had to be patient since his move from the Premier League in January.
His signing stirred up a lot of excitement among the fans and when he scored on his debut, it looked as though things were going to be a walk in the park for him.
In reality, it hasn’t quite turned out like that. However, he will have benefitted from his first start in over a month and a goal against Hearts.

Despite his advancing age, he’s clearly not lost his finishing prowess and if he’s provided with quality service, he will score goals for the club.
Alfredo Morelos’ latest ban should now afford the veteran an extended run in the team. One thing’s for sure, he’ll be looking to make full use of it.
