Marcus Tavernier, brother of Rangers captain James, copied Alfredo Morelos’ celebration after scoring a winner for Middlesbrough against West Brom in the EFL Championship on Tuesday.

Marcus came through the youth system at Boro and after making his senior debut in 2017, he’s established himself as an important player in recent years.

The 22-year-old has been a near ever-present this season, playing the full 90 minutes of 29 of their 32 league matches.

Unlike his brother, scoring goals isn’t one of his main fortes.

Ahead of the visit of the Baggies to the Riverside on Tuesday night, he’d only managed one all campaign, in a home defeat to Blackpool back in September.

He made a vital contribution in this game, though.

West Brom took the lead in the 28th minute through Jayson Molumby, but Boro would turn things around in the second half.

Northern Ireland international Paddy McNair bagged an equaliser on the hour mark and then, nine minutes later, Tav junior stepped up.

After a cross from the right was missed by a teammate, he arrived at pace at the back post to dispatch the ball past the keeper from close range and plenty of Rangers fans will enjoy what came next.

The Englishman wheeled away towards the home supporters and copied Ibrox star Alfredo Morelos’ celebration.

There was no knee slide, but he pointed to his chest and then to the ground before repeating the gestures just before he was mobbed by his teammates.

The winner ensures Boro sit sixth in the Championship table – the final playoff spot – but are only two points ahead of seventh-placed Sheffield United, who have a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund have been dealt a double injury blow ahead of the second leg of their Europa League knockout playoff against Rangers.
