Michael Beale reveals the two players who need a relationship

The striking partnership between Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty has yet to kick off, but Rangers still want it to.

That’s what Michael Beale has revealed after opening up on the pair’s relationship. The Gers coach stated that the club are looking to build a fruitful friendship on the park that will help terrorise opposition defences.

Morelos is currently the number one forward at the club. He’s managed to bag a mightily impressive 15 goals in 26 appearances. Lafferty, on the other hand, has struggled with his goal burden, and has netted just four times for the club.

Despite that, Beale insists building a relationship between the pair is highly important for the club. He’s also revealed that this is something he’s looking to personally push for manager Steven Gerrard.

“Like all the staff I’m trying to build a relationship on the pitch with Kyle and Alfredo which I think could be very fruitful for the club. “I think they have a good relationship off the pitch.

“Kyle is also very interested in why we do things. I work on the group with tactical game plan for the next game and Kyle is always asking me questions. He is at that lovely stage where he is in his early 30s and he is very intrigued by the game.

Watch this space he may enter the world I’m in at this moment in time. He has added a lot to our group that people won’t see when they watch games. Behind the scenes he has added personality.”

Time to improve

Beale may be trying to protect his star-man in this case, as there’s no denying Lafferty needs to step it up. The Rangers coach has been highly praising of the big striker, but he still must improve.

So far, injuries and a lack of impact on his rare appearances have led to a disappointing start to his Rangers return. But this is a player who bagged so many vital goals for Rangers in his first spell.

It’s also important to remember that Lafferty isn’t an out-and-out goalscorer, after bagging just 38 goals in 124 appearances for the club the first time around.

It’s vital that Rangers strike up some connection between the pair, however, as they could be the kind of duo many Premiership defences hate playing against.

Gerrard has, on occasion, played both up top in the past. We’ve yet to see much come from it, however, with Morelos operating on his best when he’s alone up top.

Beale, however, seems desperate for this partnership to work. Rangers fans will be hoping they start to see some form of success on that front.
