Michael Beale is set to take the vacant manager’s job at Sunderland, according to a report.
The Englishman was appointed Rangers boss last November as a long-term replacement for Giovanni van Bronckhorst. But after a promising start to his Ibrox stint, things eventually went on a downward spiral and he was sacked at the beginning of this season.
Beale struggled to wrestle with the stranglehold Celtic had on Scottish football under their former manager Ange Postecoglou and ultimately left Rangers trophy-less.
He was one of only a handful of Rangers managers to get the sack as he failed to get the best out of the raft of new signings he brought to the club over the summer.
Beale was sacked after a demoralising home loss to Aberdeen and had Rangers sitting third in the Premiership, trailing the Hoops by six points.
He was inexperienced having only managed Queens Park Rangers for a short while before the Rangers job. And despite failing to set the heather alight in Glasgow, Beale looks set to be given the opportunity to manage in the EFL Championship again.
Michael Beale in ‘advanced‘ Sunderland talks

As per The Athletic, Beale is in ‘advanced discussions’ to replace former Celtic boss Tony Mowbray in the Stadium of Light hotseat.
Bristol City host Sunderland on Saturday and Michael Beale is expected to attend the clash as he prepares for the next step in his managerial journey.
Black Cats caretaker manager Mike Dodds will be on the touchline for the Championship outfit tomorrow. But the aforementioned report claims Beale will be in place at Sunderland to take charge of next Saturday’s encounter at home to Coventry City.
It marks a remarkable return for Beale who will be eager to banish the negativity surrounding the end of his Rangers tenure and start afresh in the north east of England.
Sunderland sacked Mowbray despite the club sitting sixth in the Championship so Beale is taking over a club well-placed to push for a promotion play-off spot come the end of the campaign.
