Derek Ferguson has branded Michael Beale a “conman” and a “snake” as the fallout from the ex-Rangers manager’s burner X account rumbles on.

The ex-Ibrox assistant has just been sacked by Championship side Sunderland only four months on from when he was given the boot at Rangers.

The situation has been compounded by a Twitter account which is linked to Michael Beale tweeting pro-Beale messages as public pressure mounted on his position.

Derek Ferguson on Michael Beale

It’s certainly a moment of real embarrassment for Michael Beale with furious ex-Rangers midfielder Derek Ferguson giving his two cents this week.

Branding Beale a “conman” and a “snake” Ferguson claims that he was initially charmed by the outgoing Rangers manager whose approach is “night-and-day” from Philippe Clement.

“We were told under Gerrard he was the brains behind it,” said Ferguson. “Was he behind that then? Was he putting that out on Twitter?

“Was he the one that was saying, ‘he’s the one that does the tactics, he’s amazing on the grass’.

“I tell you what; great salesman. See the stuff that he spouted by the way, and then you listen to Clement, it’s like night-and-day.

“I was bought because he’s a conman, he’s a salesman. When Gio was in the manager’s job then he’s in the Louden Tavern and all that. Snake man, it’s terrible.”

Pressure tells on X Rangers manager

It’s been quite a few months for Michael Beale who is probably best taking some time out of the game after being sacked by Rangers and Sunderland.

In fact, it’s been a whirlwind 18 months or so ever since Steven Gerrard’s former Ibrox assistant took his first steps into management.

A highly-rated football coach during stints with Liverpool, Chelsea, Sao Paolo, Rangers, and Aston Villa, QPR offered the manager his first top job in the summer of 2022.

Jumping ship when Rangers came knocking – having turned down Wolves and reiterated his loyalty to the Rs – Beale’s presence in and around Ibrox before Giovanni van Bronckhorst also stunk the place out before he signed on.

Boasting a decent winning record as manager, Beale’s issue was that he could never motivate his players to win when it mattered, failing to record a meaningful win against Celtic or lift a trophy at Ibrox.

The burner X account smacks of a man too preoccupied with the sway of social media opinion and perhaps Michael Beale will learn his lessons from his time at Rangers and Sunderland.

Whilst for us the fall-out has too often veered into the personal, it’s hard to argue against the ex-Rangers manager taking a step back from the limelight.
