Rangers boss Michael Beale has admitted that he has spent the last few days speaking to potential summer signings.

The Gers manager joined Laura Woods, Ally McCoist and Gabby Agbonlahor on the talkSPORT Breakfast show this morning.

Beale was understandably asked about Rangers’ plans for the summer transfer window.

Beale has fared well as Rangers boss but more quality is needed in order to chase down Celtic next season and beyond.

That means Rangers need new faces and Ross Wilson’s exit to Nottingham Forest has left many wondering what will happen this summer.

Beale has now outlined that taking on greater responsibility for recruitment in the short-term works out best for him.

Beale even revealed that he has been speaking to potential signings ‘in the last couple of days’.

Wilson and Beale had been meeting players for a while but now it’s Beale on his own doing the legwork.

“Obviously Ross Wilson moved on last week but a lot of the plans have been in place since I came in November, it’s something we’ve been constantly talking about every day because we were so close at the training ground,” said Beale. “Now Ross has moved on and I’m leading that, I’ve been away speaking to some players in the last couple of days and it’s something that constantly ongoing in the background.”

“I think in this short period right now, it may suit me better than someone coming in in the middle of the work we’ve already been doing. I feel like I’ve got really good support from John Park, Mervyn Day is part of that as well, I feel like I’ve got really good support from the recruitment staff. A lot of the work has been done, it’s now executing it; I’m quite fussy, I like to go and meet the players and see them face-to-face, that was how we did it with Nico Raskin and Todd Cantwell, it wasn’t just the businessmen. I’ve been doing that the last few weeks, every day off, every moment in the schedule I’ve been travelling to meet people along with Ross and now I just continue to do that on my own. I’ve got a really clear idea of what I want to do and how I want the team to look,” he added.

Who could Michael Beale have been speaking to about Rangers move?

Beale may well have been speaking to players under contract but through their representatives.

Under-contract players like Angus Gunn, Freddie Woodman, Jonathan Panzo, Jose Cifuentes, Luis Palma and Josh Maja have been strongly linked in recent times.

There is also a strong chance that Beale was talking to potential free agents, as they are free to negotiate deals with other clubs.

Everton midfielder Tom Davies was loosely linked with Rangers in January and is coming to the end of his deal.

The 25-year-old needs a fresh start away from Goodison Park and he would surely jump at the chance to join Rangers.

Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie is out of contract this summer and is a boyhood Rangers fan.

The Scotland international has bagged has scored 11 league goals this season and Rangers are in need of a striker or two.

Beale no doubt has a few surprises up his sleeve but Rangers are making early moves ahead of the summer window.
